Influence of alcohol and drugs

Substances like alcohol and drugs can change how you think, feel, and behave in sexual situations. While they might make you feel more confident or relaxed, they can influence the choices you make.

How substances affect sex

  • Lowered inhibitions: You might make choices you wouldn’t normally consider, like unprotected sex or engaging in activities you’re not fully comfortable with.
  • Impaired judgment: It can be harder to recognize and respect boundaries, both your own and your partner’s.
  • Consent issues: If you or your partner are too intoxicated, clear and enthusiastic consent isn’t possible.
  • Physical effects: Substances can impact arousal, performance, and pleasure, sometimes making sex less enjoyable or physically difficult.

Staying in control

  • Know your limits: Set boundaries before drinking or using substances
  • Talk about consent while sober: This helps ensure everyone involved is on the same page
  • Use protection: Keep condoms and lube available to reduce risk of STI or pregnancy
  • Stay aware of your surroundings: Make sure you’re in a safe place with people you trust

Good sex is about feeling safe, respected, and fully present in the moment. Substances can change that, so it’s important to check in with yourself and make choices that truly align with what you want.

Thinking about sexual enhancers? What to know

Products like HoneyPack, or Pink Pussycat claim to boost performance, but they’re not always as safe as they seem. Some contain hidden ingredients that can affect your heart, blood pressure, or other medications you take.

Things to keep in mind

  • You don’t always know what’s inside: Some enhancers have unregulated or harmful substances.
  • They can interact with other meds: If you take medicine for things like asthma, anxiety, or heart health, enhancers could cause problems.
  • You might rely on them too much: Regular use can make you feel like you need them, even when you don’t.
  • Not all are tested for safety: Some aren’t approved by doctors or health experts.

Making the best choice for you

  • Ask questions: If you’re curious, talk to a doctor or pharmacist about safe options.
  • Trust your body: Good sleep, exercise, and communication with your partner help way more than a quick fix.
  • Stay safe: If you choose to use one, make sure it is from a trusted source and know the risks.

Your confidence and well-being matter most. Feeling good in your body is about more than just a product!
