Talking about condoms

Talking about condoms

Bringing up condoms can feel awkward, but it doesn’t have to be. Being open and confident about protection shows respect for yourself and your partner. Here’s how to make the conversation easier

Outdoor, love and couple with forehead touch, peace or gesture of connection, bonding or respect. Nature, woman and man with trust in relationship, comfort or commitment of support or date

Plan ahead: Think about when and how you’ll bring it up. Waiting until after sex is too late!

Know what to say: Practice beforehand. The more comfortable you are, the easier the conversation will be.

Be honest and direct: Say something simple like:
“I want to protect myself and you from STIs and pregnancy. Let’s use a condom.”

Lead by action: Sometimes words aren’t necessary. Just grab a condom and put it on yourself or your partner.

Get advice: Ask a trusted friend how they bring up the topic.

Always be prepared: Keep condoms with you, even if you’re not planning to have sex. You never know when you might need one!

Talking about condoms doesn’t have to kill the mood—it shows confidence, responsibility, and care for your partner’s well-being.
